This year San Francisco Pride hits close to home at Hot House; our very own Sister Roma has been named Community Grand Marshal! Roma’s friends and fans turned out in record-breaking numbers to vote online, electing her to lead the SF Pride Parade and appear on television, radio and at countless events as an official ambassador to Pride. Inconspicuous Art Director by day; raging drag queen, activist/fundraiser and party girl by night, Sister Roma is celebrating her 25th year with the notorious Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence. In that time she has been on the front lines in the war against HIV/AIDS, actively involved in raising $1 million for charity. Undoubtedly, Roma’s good deeds are many and well known, but let’s not get carried away, this Sister is no Saint! From Folsom Street to Bourbon Street to Halsted Street, Roma’s antics are legendary. What better way to kick off Pride than a night roasting the Grand “Marshmallow?” Join some of Roma’s closest and dearest friends including Hot House head honchos Steven Scarborough and Brent Smith, drag superstars Chi Chi LaRue, Heklina, Donna Sachet, Peaches Christ, BeBe Sweetbriar, Sasha Soprano, and SF politico Bevan Dufty – to name a few – as they share their memories (and horror stories) of Sister Roma! Twenty semi-finalists for the 2008 Bare Chest Calendar, sponsored by Hot House Entertainment, competed May 6 for coveted spots in the publication at a special Finals Selection event at the DNA Lounge. Selected from a pool of more than 40 entrants who participated in eleven semi-final contests held at the Powerhouse Bar, the finalists were judged on stage presence, salesmanship, and other attributes that will make them successful fundraisers and ambassadors for the Calendar.

The new crop of hunky volunteers is already hard at work. A sneak preview event takes place on Saturday May 12 at the BOLT in Sacramento (2560 Boxwood Street) starting at 9 PM. The 2008 Bare Chest Calendar will be photographed soon by Calendar photographer Dennis Tyler and available to the public in June during San Francisco Pride Weekend, kicking off six months of community events, special appearance and calendar sales.
