The Wait Is Over Seattle – Q Nightclub Opens September 8!
The wait is over! Q Nightclub, located at 1426 Broadway on Seattle’s Capitol Hill, opens to the public on Saturday, September 8 starring world-renown DJs Quentin Harris and Hot House’s very own Little Rock. Oh, and there is no cover charge on opening night! Q features a custom sound system from UK sound pioneers Funktion One, lighting design by SJ Lighting, and an interior by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson built by Dovetail. Each of the bars and lounges were given a distinct identity. The main bar is an asymmetrical island faced with vertical shingle-style metal panels and topped by a curving slab of white quartzite over 70 feet long. Overhead, custom light fixtures of suspended metal rods with illuminated tips form a glowing halo around the bar’s perimeter. The DJ booth anchors the west end of the space and is designed as a series of platforms that seem to rise out of the dance floor. Q’s custom Funktion One sound system ranks as the only one of its caliber on the West Coast. The main lighting grid comprises 25 moving heads, 47 spots, 388 LED panels, and four disco balls.
Quentin Harris – A New York-based house music DJ and producer, Harris’ roots in music go back to the beginning of Detroit house. He also worked with R&B legends Anita Baker and Aretha Franklin in his earlier studio career. Today, his sound encompasses every niche of electronic dance music and captivates crowds intrigued by where he’ll go next, thus securing Harris as one of music’s most in demand remixers.
Little Rock – Of course everyone here at Hot House knows DJ Little Rock (aka HH Creative Director Brent Smith). An underground club staple, Little Rock has manned the decks at New York icons Palladium and Limelight, as well as creating sexy beats around San Francisco. Little Rock fans love his creative and often outrageous remixes which range from huge names like Whitney Houston and Madonna to underground hits like “The Winding Song” by Double Plus Good which went to #2 on the Billboard Dance Charts.
Scott Smith, one of the owners and managing partner of Q, was one of the original owners of xl — which opened in 1999 in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood and ranked as one of the city’s top small clubs/gay bars. Known for its high design, xl was the first club in America to feature computer aided LED lighting. “It’s the spirit of the small club scene that interests me,” says Smith. “We’re going to do what we do best — electronic dance music, and we’re doing it on Capitol Hill. That’s our focus, to be a neighborhood club where you can expect exceptional music every day of the week.”
